MORGENSTERN formed in February 1998 by Steffen (vocals, bass), Jens (guitar) , Susanne (flute, clarinet) and Ulli (vocals , drums). Their first demo Hexenhammer appeared on the scene in the spring of the same year. September saw the addition of Dirk (flute, crumhorn, shawm). The band proceeded to tour as support for the likes of In Extremo, Merlons, Tanzwut and in May 1999, Manuel (guitar) was added to the MORGENSTERN roster. The band then recorded their second demo Operie Femina. More touring in support of bands such as Subway to Sally followed.
MORGENSTERN signed with Napalm Records in August 1999. Their debut "Feuertaufe" (recorded at Blue House Studio) was released a year later in May. But as luck would have it, with this release also came unrest in the house of the Morning Star. Founding member and vocalist Steffen, as well as guitarist Maan, left the band after discord errupted with regard to the direction the band should take. They were soon replaced by Rico (vocals) and Jörg (bass). With this new lineup, MORGENSTERN completed their second recording effort, Heute ist die Rache Mein, in 2001.
Following one year of rehearsals and recording sessions, MORGENSTERN returned to NAPALM RECORDS with their third release, Rausch. Encouraged by the reviews of their second long player, the band’s efforts concentrated on further developing technically and combining the playful sounds of medieval times with the metallic genres of our time.
In 2004 the band delivered their last full-length CD Fuego. |
